Student Affairs
The Vice Provost for Student Affairs reports to the provost/executive vice president and serves as a member of the executive leadership team of the president. The vice provost collaborates with others to develop and implement policies, services and programs and create an active network to anticipate, respond to and resolve issues that arise from the needs and expectations of students and staff. The vice provost represents student affairs throughout the university and community.
A significant dimension of the vice provost position involves developing relationships and creating connections that will enhance the quality of life for students. The vice provost has responsibility for working with students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders to promote the development of a positive campus environment. Because of the wide diversity among the units within Student Affairs, the vice provost is expected to provide leadership to ensure coherence and congruence among the various services and initiatives, ensuring that efforts are strategically aligned and mission focused. These responsibilities require the development of a strong and dynamic leadership team.
The major principles that serve, as the common anchor for all Student Affairs programs and services are articulated in CAMPUS COMPACT: A Statement of Vision, Values, and Commitments. This document, developed by the members of the Oregon State University student affairs community, represents our shared thinking about the organizational culture we desire and the value we want to bring to our University.
The vice provost should be accessible to and directly involved with the student leadership community, to the degree that students will become aware of the leadership responsibilities of the vice provost’s role.
In addition to administrative responsibilities, the vice provost for Student Affairs is expected to maintain professional vitality, be active in service to the campus, local and higher education community, and exhibit high-level collaboration and engagement throughout the university and in whatever partnerships are necessary to advance the mission of Oregon State University.
